Excellent news reached us yesterday, after way too long The Essex Green are about to release another record. It’s been a very long time since we’ve heard anything new from these North American purveyors of seemingly effortless, baroque 60’s influenced pop.
We first became aware of the band due their connections with The Ladybug Transistor. It’s fair to say that the last two albums from The Essex Green were on pretty heavy rotation in our house for quite a while. Both “The Long Goodbye” (2003) and “Cannibal Sea” (2006) are packed full of great tunes and excellent harmony vocals.
Suddenly Sasha Bell, Jeff Baron and Christopher Ziter have reconvened the band. Twelve years is a very long break, but we are happy to hear that “Sloan Ranger” the 1st available track from the new album “Hardly Electronic” is perfect slice of upbeat indie summer pop. A perfect taster for the album which comes out on June 29th through the ever excellent Merge Records.
We are very much looking forward to hearing the new album, surely it’s no coincidence that today was the first day that had a feel of summer about it. Maybe The Essex Green should take some of the credit for that.
