Back in Mid November a glorious slice of Italian sunshine burst into life on the boarder between Redland and Westbury Park here in Bristol. The Lavender Coffee Shop and Deli opened and brought forth the flavours, colours and warmth of its Neapolitan owners.
While it is perfectly possible to just pop in and just have a coffee, we think that this will be pretty difficult. The counter that you order from will be covered with an amazing array of tempting treats. A large selection of small traditional Italian favourites like Cannoli and Taralli cover the surface. Alongside this you will find Danish pastries and chocolate slices. Some tough decisions await you and only the very strong willed will manage to keep their order to a minimum.
Food wise this is though just the starting point. If you a lucky they may just be putting out one of their gorgeous home made Tortano Napoletano, a fantastic mix of peppers, salami and cheese encased within a ring of bread. The deli counter has a nice range of cold meats and cheese, which are used to create a delicious range of Panini’s and tempting looking sharing platters. There is also a changing list of daily special hot meals if you are looking for something to warm you on these colder days.
And we are still not finished, Lavender sells a substantial range of imported Italian foodstuff to take away. From bread, pasta, oils and olives, to jam, bottled anti-pasti and coffee from Naples everything is here, so it will be very easy to create an authentic Italian meal from the goods on offer. They also stock a huge of array of Italian chocolate and sweets from the likes of Orsini and Leone including some tempting Gianduotti chocolates that we will get to once our house has been cleared of the edible Christmas gifts!
In the short time that they have open Lavender has already made itself part of the community. It’s the perfect place to pop into for a quick treat but be aware that you may well leave with rather more than you intended to buy.
